Michael Moorman, President
The Woodland Company
Michael started his career in 1996, after graduating from Louisiana Tech University. From 1996 until 2000, Michael served in several forest management and wood procurement positions.
While working full-time and raising a family, Michael started work in timberland real estate, first getting his real estate brokerage license and then completing the educational requirement to become a certified general appraiser.
In 2001 Michael accepted a position with the United Stated Forest Service as an appraiser, assisting in acquisitions and exchanges of federal lands in the Southeast Region. For the next three years Michael refined his craft by appraising tens of thousands of acres of timberland properties throughout the South and Appalachia. During this time, Michael became an expert at yellow book appraisals.
Michael moved back into private industry in 2004 when he accepted a position with Sizemore & Sizemore, Inc. as a Timberland Investment Analyst and Appraiser. During the time spent at Sizemore & Sizemore, Michael developed relationships with institutional investors and replaced legacy timber valuation models. Michael also developed their real estate sales business and grew the appraisal business.
In 2008 Michael accepted an offer as Senior Appraiser and eventually partner at TerraSource Valuation in Charlotte, North Carolina. The goal of his position was to develop the Southeastern appraisal business, which he did beyond all expectations. Michael completely transformed the business from a small hardwood appraisal company to a powerhouse in southern timberland valuation. The appraisal methodologies and cash-flow modeling developed by Michael are still in use today.
In 2011, Michael started and directed Forest Intelligence Group, which was a Timberland Investment Banking firm focused on originating and brokering secondary deals in the timber space. During a two year period, Michael was able to identify and analyze several billion dollars of secondary opportunities.
At the end of 2012, Michael returned to his roots and started Woodland Appraisal, LLC, which is now The Woodland Company, LLC. The Woodland Company is dedicated to excellence in timberland brokerage, valuation and investment. We are a vibrant, growing company focused on being the best in our space.
